4 nights. NOT Haad Rin. The math is decisive. Format threshold: at 4 people, hostels work. At 6+, a villa becomes cheaper per person AND eliminates the mandatory NYE gala dinner surcharge ($43-114/person). Book NOW — non-refundable.
Many properties add a $43-114/person non-optional dinner surcharge on December 31. You cannot opt out. Villas and family-run guesthouses do not impose this. Factor it into your comparison or avoid it entirely.
If Ban Tai hostels appear sold out online, email the property directly. Many hold back NYE inventory from platforms to avoid commission fees.
Not Krabi Town. 1 night on the 8-day version, 3 nights on the 10-day. No booking urgency — Krabi does not have the same NYE demand pressure as Koh Phangan.

AirAsia and VietJet enforce a strict 7kg carry-on limit. Book domestic flights at the same time as international — $40 fares become $200+ if you wait.

Walk two sois back from any tourist strip. The same dish at half the price. Terminal 21 Pier 21 food court in Bangkok serves full meals for 60-100 THB.
On Koh Phangan, self-cater breakfast from 7-Eleven — saves 150-300 THB/person/morning. Redirect the savings to better dinners.
Every ATM withdrawal incurs a 220 THB fee (~$6 USD) plus your US bank's foreign transaction fee ($3-5). The solution: open a Schwab or Fidelity account before departure — both offer 100% ATM fee reimbursement worldwide.
Always choose THB when the ATM asks. Choosing USD triggers Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC), which costs 5-10% on every transaction. Use Bangkok Bank, KBank, or SCB ATMs.
Someone approaches and says the palace is "closed for a royal ceremony" — it almost never is. The redirect sends you to a tuk-tuk and then a gem shop where prices are fabricated. Walk directly to Mani Noppharat Gate and verify for yourself.
Entry to Haad Rin on New Year's Eve is 100% free. Any website, tout, or hostel selling "entry tickets" or "VIP access" to the beach party is running a scam. There are no tickets because there is no gate.
